Terms & Conditions

By accessing, participating and using the hackAIR platform through the web interface or mobile platform, you accept that you have read and understood the below terms and agree that you will comply with Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy as well as respective EU and participating countries’ regulations and directives. You must be 16 or older in order to create an account and participate in the hackAIR platform. If you are under 18 years old, you must claim that you have parental consent to use the platform.

The hackAIR platform was developed and deployed as part of the “Collective awareness platform for outdoor air pollution” (hackAIR) project which received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No 688363 and was coordinated by DRAXIS Environmental S.A., Greece. The services of the hackAIR platform were upgraded in the context of the “Exposure to heat and air pollution in Europe – cardiopulmonary impacts and benefits of mitigation and adaptation” (EXHAUSTION) project funded by the same Programme under grant agreement No 820655.

The platform is operated by DRAXIS Environmental S.A., who owns the server. hackAIR is an open platform that enables citizens to access, collect and improve air quality information in Europe, receive information about episodes of extreme outdoor temperature and the probability of forest fires, and promote a change towards environmentally friendly behaviour. It combines official air quality data with a number of community-driven sources, including easy-to-build open hardware sensor modules that transmit regular measurements of particulate matter concentrations. Regarding extreme temperature episodes, the thermal stress index over Europe provided on the platform derives from models developed by DRAXIS Environmental S.A., as does the forest fire index.

You shall be aware that the air quality forecasts, the thermal stress index and the forest fire index provided by hackAIR are only estimates and may not represent the actual conditions. These estimates are not precise measurements, cannot replace official data, and are intended for personal use and informational purposes only.

In case you own an air quality monitoring device that you wish to connect with hackAIR, you are fully responsible for the use, care, and maintenance of it. hackAIR or its partner organisations shall not be liable for any harm that the devices may cause and any defects that the devices may have.

Using the hackAIR platform and publishing any personal information relies on your consent. You can remove your account and all your personal information from the platform at any time. You also agree that you will be consistent with the purpose of the platform and will not participate in, publish or create any improper content or content containing threats, violence, abusive statements including racial, sexual, offensive, provocative or discriminatory and information invading an individual’s privacy. DRAXIS Environmental S.A. reserves the rights to disable user accounts and remove measurements and/or photos, as well any content that does not meet the above rules.
Your email address is being collected during the registration to the platform to define your user rights and send you notifications in case you have subscribed to them. At the bottom of each notification email, information is provided how you can unsubscribe from receiving future emails. All requests to unsubscribe from the hackAIR platform notifications will be processed in a timely manner.

Please take into account that the raw air quality measurements from your sensing device will be made publicly and freely available for any purpose under a creative commons licence. The data will be first anonymised, while no sky photos will be offered to 3rd parties for any purpose.
Participation in the hackAIR platform does not create any right or benefit against DRAXIS Environmental S.A. and its departments.
